Pedestal Table in the Art Deco style with stunning burr elm veneer.

The minimalist design, coupled with the best burr elm veneer I have ever seen, combine to make a table that will dominate any room it is placed in!

The creamy Satinwood inlays provide a subtle contrast to the swirls of the Elm. Although Deco in style, the table was actually designed and made by Italian craftsmen in the 1960's.

Very fine Westmorland Press Cupboard dated 1697, initialled 'TPI'.

The Westmorland and Lake District had a strong custom of inscribing dates and initials on furniture. Probably their more frequently used decorative motifs being a complex strapwork interlace, harkening back to Celtic and Scandinavian designs of the Middle Ages – floral rosettes and diamonds also feature strongly.

The court cupboards were always expensive pieces of furniture and would be found in gentlemen’s and yeoman’s (land owners) houses. They frequently formed part of a marriage dowry.

The carving on this cupboard is exceptional and of sublime colour and patination. In good original condition with some later elements.
