A fine quality 19th century carved wood, gold leaf & polychrome Blackamoor Girl with torch.
Probably Venetian.Holding aloft a torch. The arms and neck with painted polychrome & gold leaf amulets & necklace. The face and hair with very detailed carving and the scarf in gold leaf. The body with bared breast and wearing a sarong, in fabulous colours and showing beautifully executed drapes & folds. The legs with gold bands & gold boots.
The life-like and beautifully balanced pose complete the picture.

A pair of 19th. cent carved wooden and polychrome figures, depicting king with crown and robes, inscribed to the base "S.LUDOVICUS. R" and a Bishop with Mitre and robes , inscribed to the plinth "S.THOMAS.M.". Signed by "Mayer & Co., Munich Artistic Establishment".
In unrestored condition. 122cm high.
